Insomniac Games has released its first official statement following Marvel's Wolverine's frosty critical reception. The comments offer hope that Marvel's Wolverine will continue to improve massively after its release, with the developer listening to all player feedback.
After the critical success of all three Marvel's Spider-Man titles, many assumed Insomniac's take on Wolverine would be a guaranteed hit. However, Marvel's Wolverine reviews have been a little more mixed than expected, garnering a Top Critic Average of 79 on OpenCritic. On the review aggregator site, just 69% of critics recommend the game, with much of the criticism aimed at its combat depth and hand-holding. The reviews are far from terrible, but they may not quite match what many thought Insomniac could achieve with the game.
Insomniac Promises to "Further Refine" Marvel's Wolverine After Mixed Reviews
In a statement on X after the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac Games reiterated that it is "incredibly proud of what the team has created." However, it followed up by confirming that Marvel's Wolverine changes are on the way in the coming weeks and months, stating, "We're also actively engaged with our player community and gathering feedback to further refine the player experience."
The extent to which Marvel's Wolverine gets updated in the future remains to be seen. Bugs can be fixed, but there is an argument that many of the issues raised with Marvel's Wolverine go deeper than that, and would require a more extensive rework to reach the highs expected of the game. It feels unlikely, to say the least, but at least Insomniac is listening to what the community has to say, with more feedback sure to come now that the game is in players' hands.

Be the first. While it's good that Insomniac Games is looking to address the issues with Marvel's Wolverine, some gamers may be frustrated that those who play months later could be rewarded for their patience, while those who bought it at launch may not. It's not uncommon for games to vastly improve after launch nowadays, but with a massive AAA title like Marvel's Wolverine, where its linear single-player nature may hamper the replayability, it's fair for players to want as close to the finished package as possible on release.
It's unclear what's next for Insomniac Games. A recent rumor suggested that Marvel's Venom is still in development at the studio, but there has been no official word yet. For now, it seems further updates to Marvel's Wolverine are the primary focus, and gamers will just have to wait and see what the studio has planned for the future.
