New LEGO Batman DLC Honors Harley Quinn's Original Voice Actor

The Mayhem Collection DLC for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is now available, putting a villainous spin on the game. Rather than focusing on Batman and his allies, the DLC follows Joker and Harley Quinn as they stage a breakout from Arkham Asylum.

CBR recently spoke with design director Jimmy Sedota about the Mayhem Collection and the work that went into bringing its villains to life. Among its most meaningful additions is a touching tribute to the original Harley Quinn, who was brought to life by the late Arleen Sorkin.

In a game chock-full of Easter eggs and references, there’s one that particularly stands out to Jimmy Sedota. “I'm really happy about and excited about the jewelry stores we have that are called Sorkin's Gems,” he says. The stores pay tribute to Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of Harley Quinn, who first brought the character to life in Batman: The Animated Series.

The Easter egg follows a similar tribute to the late longtime Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy, with a Gotham City Radio billboard advertising “After Hours with Conroy, The Voice of Gotham's Night.” Together, the references honor two performers who helped define the Batman: The Animated Series era.

Arleen Sorkin passed away in 2023, at the age of 67. Not only was she Harley Quinn's first voice actor, but she helped inspire the character. Sorkin's strong New York accent and theatrical personality, which came from her background in cabaret, helped make Harley Quinn a DC mainstay.

Sedota explained why including Sorkin was especially important: “We really wanted to pay tribute to her because she defined Harley in a lot of ways. You know, in my mind, she brought life to that character right through her voice acting."

Lego Batman DLC Makes the Game Feel Like a Roguelite

Within the Mayhem Collection, players are encouraged to cause as much chaos as possible. Sedota explains that the DLC is “going to Amusement Mile, you set up a hideout, and then you go on what we're calling runs. You’re robbing ATMs and stores, flooding ARGUS until Task Force X appears. To make these runs go longer, you need to collect more studs.”

As the name suggests, the goal is to create as much mayhem across Gotham as possible. Amanda Waller is confirmed to be commanding Task Force X, though the rest of the team remains a mystery.

It’s an interesting twist on the roguelite formula, especially since the runs take place within an open-world setting. If the DLC captures the same appeal as LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, it should give Batman fans another entertaining way to explore Gotham.
