CI Games has shared a new gameplay breakdown for Lords of the Fallen II, detailing changes to melee combat, magic, and ranged weapons. The sequel will feature nearly 30 distinct weapon movesets, up from 15 in 2023’s Lords of the Fallen.
The details were revealed in the eleventh episode of the developer’s Lifting the Veil series, titled “Steel & Sorcery.” Chief Creative Officer Ryan Hill and Lead Combat Designer Mike Vermeulen discussed the changes alongside Launch Creative Team members Travis “Pastorgainz” Hughlett and Chandler Huddleston.
Players can now switch between two melee weapon loadouts during a combo without interrupting an attack sequence. They can also transition between one-handed and two-handed stances during combat. Individual weapon classes will feature different maneuvers, including repositioning attacks, extended combos, and area-of-effect strikes.
The sequel introduces counterstrike attacks and additional boss weapons with signature abilities. Each melee loadout can equip two Quickfire abilities, allowing players to use spells, ranged attacks, or buffs without changing their current combat stance.
Magic and ranged combat are receiving separate dedicated stances that retain the mobility available during melee combat. Spellcasters can equip up to four spells with a single catalyst and switch to another catalyst for access to four additional spells. Spells can be cast immediately, with charged variations available as well.
Seven schools of magic will be featured, and players can restore mana through the Sanguinarix instead of wholly consumable items.
Ranged weapons will also have unlimited basic ammunition, while stronger ammunition types can be replenished at designated locations. These changes are intended to support characters built primarily around ranged combat.
Other adjustments include recovering weapon upgrades for a small fee, allowing players to transfer their investment to different equipment later in the game.
Lords of the Fallen II is scheduled to launch in Q1 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. PLAION will handle the game’s physical distribution.
